Tibetan Freedom Fighters

A Poetic Description of a Desperate Life

January 2, 2013 by Steven Cudzillo, Denver, Colorado

“I really enjoyed this book. I didn’t really know what to expect from this at first, but was quickly drawn into the realistic and intimidating characters’ lives. I cared about Jupe and was rooting for his redemption and success at every turn, even when he was making stupid decisions. I found myself screaming at the book; ‘Stop! That’s a bad idea!’ It was very engaging.

At times it was very schadenfreude-ish because it was great to realize that my life is easy compared to the life of the protagonist.

Even though I typically read 3rd person narrative; Samsara is written in the daring 1st person perspective, which I found to be a great way to really experience Jupe’s actions and reasonings. The unique style and timely cultural references put me in mind of some of our greatest authors – Kerouck, Wiliam S Burroughs, and Chuck Palahniuk. If you enjoy any of those authors or even Tom Robbins and Augusten Burroughs, you should really enjoy this book and it’s autobiographical feel.

Although some of the situations and descriptions can be harsh I found this book to be a beautiful work. Samsara depicts real situations that happen to rare individuals that are often tough to experience, but worth the ride and overall enjoyable. It truly helps us to delve into different aspects of the human condition; aspects that most of us safe and warm in the American Dream know almost nothing about.

I highly recommend this.”
